The application of the "As Low As Reasonably Practicable" (ALARP) principle in risk reduction strategy is the cornerstone of nuclear safety in the United Kingdom.  It is intricately intertwined with the regulatory framework of this country.  This ALARP principal is in fact an amended version of the internationally adopted A Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle and is based on a pragmatic and holisitc approach.
