Safety and Performance for Innovative Reactors

This article describes work in progress in Work Package 4 of the EPSRC 'Keeping the Nuclear Option Open' (KNOO) research and research training programme. While it focusses on selected Generation IV future reactor systems the aim is to also respond to the current interests of industry stakeholders. Such a niversity-based programme can only be highly selective in its topics and is addressing fault and severe accident modelling together with related research topics in thermal hydraulics plus fuel, graphitic and metallic materials issues. Research into hydrogen production using high temperature process heat from innovative nuclear systems is also discussed.
