| This paper describes the requirements for carrying out Periodic Safety Reviews (PSR) to ensure continued operational safety at civil nuclear sites and the processes used in the United Kingdom, for the British Energy fleet. UK Nuclear Site Licence Conditions require PSRs to be carried out by site licensees. The PSR provides an opportunity for a detailed review of the safety case to ensure that it is still valid and a detailed review of the plant to ensure that it still meets the safety case requirements. This paper covers the scope of the review and the process used by British Energy. The paper concludes by contrasting the established UK PSR process with that planned for the first PSR at Cernavoda, Romania, and uses these comparisons to discuss some of the lessons learnt from the work carried out so far in both countries. |
