Prospects for US/UK Nuclear Research Collaborations
Author:
Anderson, Roger
Co-Author(s):
The preceding articles in this special issue of Nuclear Future describe a variety of significant activities of the U.S. national laboratory system in relation to the resurgence of interest in nuclear energy. Much of the nuclear research focus in the U.S. is broadly applicable internationally, and many international research partnerships are being developed to enrich both the capabilities available to research teams and their understanding of the array of applications environments. The U.K. and the U.S. have been at the forefront of nuclear research since the 1940s. Over the past few decades there has been a close link between U.S. and U.K. nuclear research programmes. This relationship is now entering a different phase given the global drive for a nuclear renaissance and the need for developing sustainable fuel cycles. This article outlines the encouraging prospects for expanded nuclear research collaborations between the U.S. and U.K..
