Diamond Light Source- Enlightening Nuclear Science and Engineering

Diamond is the largest scientific facility to be constructed in the UK for 40 years. It has been built to advance research in areas from biology and medicine to the physical and chemical sciences to the environmental and earth sciences. Opened in January 2007 and with more beamlines being added year-on-year, it is available to both academics and industry. The aim of this article is to introduce the facility, to explain how it produces some of the most intense X-ray beams in the world, and to provide some examples showcasing its potential to support research and development in nuclear science and engineering.
