The role that the European Union (EU) plays is such that lobbying is now an integral part of daily business for industry across Europe. The role of the lobbyist is outlined and includes the importance of having your voice heard, of getting an opinion across, and trying to influence decision-making; all are key to maintaining competitiveness. The European Union's Green Paper "A European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy" and also a new "Illustrative Nuclear Programme" are discussed and the lobbying strategy, prompted by these documents, is outlined.
