Sustainable Property Data for Nuclear Engineering
Author: Swindells, Norman
Co-Author(s):

A new International Standard has been developed to support the long term conservation of technical property data for nuclear construction, nuclear operations nuclear monitoring and nuclear waste. It provides the means to conserve digital data for materials properties and other engineering measurements independently from any proprietary software. ISO 10303-235: 'Engineering properties for product design and verification' is a new application of the series of ISO 10303 standards developed by ISO TC184/SC4. The objective of these standards is to provide a neutral mechanism capable of describing product and process data throughout the life-cycle of a product, independently from any particular software system. The new standard can represent the results of the measurement of property data values for any product measured by any process. Use of the standard enables quality control and quality assurance of measured data and provides an audit trail to verify the value of a measurement by the describing processes by which the result was obtained. Information represented by ISO 10303-235 and the other ISO 10303 standards reduces the costs of developing special data formats and individual file translators between alternative software systems.
